'Terminator' franchise on the auction block
How can we possibly be out of the recession if something as historically epic as the Terminator franchise is up for sale? The Deadline Hollywood Web site says Sony, Summit Entertainment and Media Rights Capital are all fighting for the highest bid when the entire Terminator franchise — movies, TV shows, the works — is auctioned this month. According to the UK's Guardian newspaper, Terminator is currently owned by Hollywood producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, under the moniker Halcyon. While the movie sequels and TV spinoffs have been a moneymaker, Halcyon is having some major money woes with one of the hedge funds that financed its initial purchase of the rights. Sounds like a bunch of Wall Street mumbo jumbo to movie fans. We half-expected Skynet to be involved.
Ryan Seacrest stalking suspect pleads not guilty
Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr., who was arrested outside Ryan Seacrest's E! office building on Friday, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a felony stalking charge. Uzomah entered the plea through an attorney. A court commissioner ordered Uzomah to stay 500 yards away from Seacrest if he is released from jail on $150,000 bail. Seacrest attorney Blair Berk filed a motion indicating that Uzomah had a knife when he went looking for Ryan. That doesn't look good, because he's on probation for fighting with a Seacrest bodyguard in September. Uzomah is a sergeant with the Army Reserve 426th Civil Affairs Battalion, prompting an apology from Lt. Col. Nathan Banks to TMZ: "We apologize to Ryan Seacrest. Pending the outcome of the local investigation, the Army will decide what further action to take. We take all matters of our personnel seriously."
Photographer falls and dies after Lady Gaga's arrival
A photographer at Monday night's ACE Awards in New York apparently died after a fall when Lady Gaga arrived at the show, OK! magazine says. "Gaga's arrival made a photographer at the event pass out while standing on a ladder, causing him to fall to his death," OK! quotes Fame Pictures. OK!'s Valerie Nome says that she did indeed see a photog lying on the sidewalk "with medical help surrounding him."
Kardashians to appear in charity boxing match
Kim and Khloe Kardashian are among the members of the infamous clan who planned to step into the ring Tuesday night for a charity boxing match, Us reports. The sisters, their brother Robert, stepfather Bruce Jenner and pregnant sister Kourtney's baby daddy Scott Disick are all pulling on the gloves at the Kardashian Charity Knock Out in L.A. We won't be able to share the outcome, because it's being taped for an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, so producer Ryan Seacrest is liable to slap gag orders on everyone involved. "We actually got to see the people that we're fighting the other day and Kim's person scares me," Khloe said on Seacrest's KIIS radio show before the fight. "She's jacked."
Colbert will sponsor U.S. Olympic speedskating team
On Monday's Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert announced his show has become the primary sponsor of the U.S. Speedskating team. The team's largest annual cash sponsor, DSB Bank NV, left the team in the lurch after it declared bankruptcy in October. The name "Colbert Nation" — the catchall for the legion of ardent fans of the satirical Comedy Central program — will be emblazoned on the team's uniforms. "On their enormous, billboard thighs, it will say, 'Colbert Nation,"' Colbert said in an interview before Monday evening's taping.
