One of these books might make a fine Father's Day gift. (It's next Sunday.)

American Parent: My Strange and Surprising Adventures in Modern Babyland (Ballantine) by Sam Apple is an amazing and amusing memoir of first-time fatherhood combined with journalism about the current state of parenting.

The Best of Simon and Kirby (Titan), edited by Steve Saffel, a full-color collection of comics by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, would knock the socks off a dad who's a connoisseur of the golden age of Marvel, DC and other classic comics.

The Final Four of Everything (Simon & Schuster), edited by Mark Reiter and Richard Sandomir, is an endlessly entertaining application of "bracketology" to everything from weirdest celebrity baby name to most American superhero.
