This summer, Dorothy Marcic is involved with Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center as the author of Respect: A Musical Journey of Women, which traces women's history in the 20th century through top 40 songs. Marcic is a former management professor at Vanderbilt University. The musical runs through Aug. 2 in the Jaeb Theater.

What is on your nightstand?

In the Shadow of Fame: A Memoir by the Daughter of Erik H. Erickson by Sue Erickson Bloland; The House that George Built: With a Little Help from Irving, Cole and a Crew of About Fifty by Wilfred Sheed; Rewrites: A Memoir by Neil Simon; Monster: Living Off the Big Screen by John Gregory Dunne; Home Before Dark by Susan Cheever. I notice I've been drawn to memoirs lately, but you also see a pattern about writing and the entertainment business.

When you look at your reading list, you can see where you're focused.

Exactly, it's usually like that with me. But there was a time about three years ago when I was reading Chinese fiction, and I had never been to China.
