Notable Wow, what a flashback Two new books and a new edition of a classic evoke the glory days of 1970s pop culture. Instamatic Karma: Photographs of John Lennon (St. Martin's), by May Pang, collects casual snaps and formal photos shot by Pang during her much-publicized mid '70s affair with Lennon; her cheery account of the relationship's weird beginning is worth the ticket. Mystery Train: Images of America in Rock 'n' Roll Music (Plume), by Greil Marcus, is an updated fifth edition of the influential 1975 work by one of the most brilliant practitioners of music criticism, focusing on the Band, Sly Stone, Randy Newman and Elvis. Peace: The Biography of a Symbol (National Geographic), by Ken Kolsbun, celebrates in words and photos the 50th anniversary of the little emblem that came to signify the '70s antiwar movement, and some of the people and events associated with it.
