Jean Powers of Palm Harbor grew up in Astoria, N.Y., in the same neighborhood as Tony Bennett. On the eve of Bennett's Clearwater Jazz Holiday performance Oct. 16, she spoke to the Times. "(Bennett) sang at my wedding because we knew one another, and he also was a singing waiter at the Pheasant Club, the place of my reception. His cousin, Rose Giordano, was my maid of honor,'' she said.

What is on your nightstand?

I used to love reading romance, paperback novels, but these days I stick to magazines. I think my favorite book would be Gone With the Wind.

That's a very romantic book. Do you think having Tony Bennett in Astoria influenced your romanticism?

We had a different type of childhood than children have now. We had dances, and music does have a lot to do with romance.

When you moved from New York to Florida, did you expect to find a few Southern men as handsome as Clark Gable?

I'm not sure, but I did see a doctor with Clark Gable looks just recently.
