As part of Plight and Promise of Africa: An Eckerd College Initiative, Jerald Walker (Street Shadows: A Memoir of Race, Rebellion and Redemption) presents a talk, "We Are Americans: Traveling to the Motherland in Search of One's Racial Identity," at 7 p.m. Monday in Miller Auditorium at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

Patricia Seaver McGivern (Angel Babies: Messages From Miscarried and Other Lost Babies) will talk about and sign her book at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tarpon Springs Library, 138 E Lemon St.

Frances O'Roark Dowell (Falling In) will talk about and sign her latest book for young readers at 5 p.m. Thursday at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa.

St. Petersburg poet laureate Peter Meinke (Lines From Neuchatel) and his wife, artist Jeanne Meinke (Lines From Wildwood Lane), will talk about and sign their books at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

The Writers at the University series at the University of Tampa presents fiction writer Dorothy Allison (Bastard Out of Carolina, Trash) at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Plant Hall Grand Salon on the campus, 401 W Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.

Boxing trainer Angelo Dundee (My View From the Corner: A Life in Boxing) will sign his memoir about working with Muhammad Ali and other champions at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Clearwater, 23654 U.S. 19 N.
