Events: Lauren Berger to sign 'Welcome to the Real World'

Lauren Berger (Welcome to the Real World: Finding Your Place, Perfecting Your Work, and Turning Your Job into Your Dream Career), founder of internqueen.com, will discuss and sign her book at 2 p.m. April 27 at Countryside Library, 2741 State Road 580, Clearwater.

Poets Dixie Ann Black (Just Chasing the Sun), Erica Dawson (The Small Blades Hurt) and Mary Elizabeth Perez (How Old Is Fresh) will read from and sign their books at 7 p.m. April 29 at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa.

Poetry Life Weekend presents award-winning poets Sandra Alcossar (The Blue Vein), Mark Doty (Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems) and Kevin Young (Book of Hours) in a panel discussion at 10 a.m. May 2 at Florida Studio Theatre, 1241 N Palm Ave., Sarasota. Doty and Young will present a reading at the theater at 7:30 p.m. May 2. Doty and Young will also be featured at the Above and Beyond Luncheon at the theater at noon May 3; information at poetrylife.org. Tickets for the panel discussion and for the reading are $15 each, and lunch tickets are $35 each; call Florida Studio Theatre at (941) 366-9000.

Early registration is available through April 30 for the second annual Sandhill Writers Retreat. Faculty for the full-day retreat are Florida Book Award winner Lola Haskins, Tampa Bay Times Real Florida columnist Jeff Klinkenberg, Florida Lifetime Achievement for Writing Award winner Enid Shomer and University of South Florida creative writing professor Ira Sukrungruang. The retreat will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 17 at Saint Leo University, 33701 State Road 52, St. Leo. Early registration is $85 for the public, $65 for teachers, students and senior citizens and $25 for veterans and active-duty military. After May 1, fees are $15 higher. Author and vendor applications for the 2014 Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading, which will take place Oct. 25 at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, are available at festivalofreading.com.
