Events: Lois Lowry to appear in Tampa

Two-time Newbery Award winner Lois Lowry (The Birthday Ball) will talk about and sign her new children's book at 2 p.m. today at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa.

Miles Harvey (Painter in a Savage Land: The Strange Saga of the First European Artist in North America) will talk about his book about Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues as part of the Florida Conversations series at 3 p.m. today at the Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water St., Tampa.

Teresa Vazquez Martinez (Success in Exile/Exito en el Exilio) will be the featured speaker at the Tampa Latin Chamber luncheon at noon Tuesday at Doubletree Hotel, 4500 W Cypress St., Tampa. Tickets $30; call (813) 936-4029.

Fantasy romance author Gena Showalter (Into the Dark) will talk about and sign her book at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes & Noble Carrollwood, 11802 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa.

The University of South Florida Humanities Institute's Poetry Month Lecture Series presents three-time U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky reading his work at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Traditions Hall, USF Alumni Center, 4402 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.

USF associate professor of Africana studies Edward Kissi (Genocide and the Role of the United Nations) will talk about his book as part of Genocide and Human Rights Awareness Month at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Florida Holocaust Museum, 55 Fifth St. S, St. Petersburg.

Stetson Law professor William Eleazer (Savannah Law) will sign his novel at 10 a.m. Saturday at ALVA International, 238 Beach Drive, St. Petersburg.
