Events: Noted poet Galway Kinnell to read and discuss his work in Tampa

A launch party for the 2011 volume of Thread, an undergraduate journal for literary inquiry at the University of South Florida, will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2708, Marshall Student Center, 4202 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the USF Humanities Institute and department of English present poet Galway Kinnell, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award and Frost Medal, reading and discussing his work at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Traditions Hall, USF Alumni Center, 4202 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.

Yellow Jacket Press will celebrate National Poetry Month with its second annual Poetry Party, featuring St. Petersburg poet laureate Peter Meinke; Tampa poet laureate James Tokley; Melissa Carroll, winner of the first Meinke Prize in Poetry; Laura Sobbot Ross, winner of the Yellow Jacket Press contest for Florida poets; and poets Helen Wallace, Scott Ward, Rhonda Nelson and Charles Flowers. Admission is $5. The event is at 6 p.m. Friday in the Flamingo Room, Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.
