East Lake Community Library's Author Showcase presents Debby Mayne (Pretty Is as Pretty Does) discussing her "faithful fiction" novel at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 4125 East Lake Road, Palm Harbor.

Bestselling Tampa author Tim Dorsey (The Rip Tide Ultraglide) will discuss and sign his latest comic Florida novel at 1 p.m. Saturday at Braden River Library, 4915 53rd Ave. E, Bradenton, and at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Holmes Beach Island Library, 5701 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach.

Tampa Bay Comic Con, featuring bestselling author Hugh Howey (Wool), celebrity guests, comics artists, cosplay, vendors and more, takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St., Tampa. Vendor applications for the 21st annual Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading, which will be held Oct. 26 at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, are available at festivalofreading.com.
