Author Leonard Pitts Jr. will discuss his new novel at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa, at 6 p.m. Monday. Freeman is set in the first few months after the Confederate surrender and Lincoln's assassination. Animal rights activist Neil Abramson (Unsaid) will discuss and sign his novel at 6 p.m. Monday at Bookstore1Sarasota, 1359 Main St., Sarasota.

Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum's Lunch and Learn series presents University of South Florida St. Petersburg historian Gary Mormino (Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams) discussing "The Florida Dream" at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the museum, 100 Beekman Lane, Tarpon Springs.
