Events: USF philosophy instructor Peyton McElroy to discuss Camus' 'The Plague'

The Cathedral Church of St. Peter's book talk series presents University of South Florida philosophy instructor Peyton McElroy discussing Albert Camus' The Plague at noon Tuesday at the cathedral, 140 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg. Lunch available ($5).

Poet Maureen McDole (Longing for the Deep End) will read and discuss her work at 6 p.m. Thursday at BookLover's Cafe, 2105 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

Times environmental reporter Craig Pittman (The Scent of Scandal: Greed, Betrayal and the World's Most Beautiful Orchid) will discuss and sign his book about orchid smuggling at 7 p.m. Thursday at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa.

Robert Pinsky, former U.S. poet laureate, will present a Favorite Poem Reading, followed by a book signing, at 2 p.m. Friday at Florida Studio Theatre, 1241 N Palm Ave., Sarasota; tickets are $25 and include a copy of Pinsky's Selected Poems; www.floridastudiotheatre.org/. Pinsky will sign his books at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bookstore1Sarasota, 1359 Main St.

YellowJacket Press will hold its third annual Poetry {after}Party, featuring the debuts of books by the winner of the press' contest for Florida poets, Liz Robbins (Girls Turned Like Dials), and by finalist Christopher Tozier (A Little Book of Light History), as well as readings by Silvia Curbelo, Charles Flowers, Nyssa Hanger, Jeff Karon, Eric Pfeiffer and Katie Riegel. Tickets are $5; the party is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Mermaid Tavern, 6719 N Nebraska Ave., Tampa.

John Cinchett (Vintage Tampa Storefronts and Scenes) will sign his book of historic photos at noon Saturday at Larmon Furniture, 1324 E Seventh Ave., Tampa.
