Educator and author Chris Mercogliano will give a talk about his book In Defense of Childhood: Protecting Kids' Inner Wildness at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Valley School, 2109 Nebraska Ave., Palm Harbor.

Wayne Ayers will discuss his book Tampa Bay's Beaches: Then and Now at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Gulf Beaches Library, 200 Municipal Drive, Madeira Beach.

Quilt, the University of Tampa's student literary magazine, presents award-winning poet Henri Cole (Blackbird and Wolf) at its annual Coffee House Poetry Reading at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Grand Salon in Plant Hall on the UT campus, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.

Children's author Lynda Lippman-Lockhart, author of Oodles of Poodles of Dark Corner, and her poodle, Bogie, will appear at Florida Poodle Rescue's Back to the '50s fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, 11 Central Ave. Tickets are $50; information at www.floridapoodlerescue.org.
