Festival of Reading: Laura Coffey writes about some lucky dogs in 'My Old Dog'

The Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading presents more than 50 authors, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Laura Coffey will speak at 1 p.m. in FPRW 118. More information is here

Laura Coffey is the author of the bestselling book My Old Dog: Rescued Pets With Remarkable Second Acts. Coffey is a writer, editor and producer for Today.com, the website of NBC's Today Show, but her writing career began in the Tampa Bay area. After graduating as valedictorian of both Largo High School and the University of South Florida, she worked as a reporter at the then-St. Petersburg Times.

In My Old Dog, Coffey tells the stories of senior dogs who found loving new homes, including a 10-year-old cocker spaniel named Einstein. The former stray is now the pampered pet of George Clooney. The actor, activist and animal lover found Einstein in rescue group Camp Cocker's online video. Coffey reports that he was so eager to have the dog like him that he rubbed turkey meatballs on his shoes before Einstein and rescuers arrived for a visit at his Los Angeles home.
