The University of South Florida Humanities Institute's Poetry Month programs continue with a reading by poets Sandra Beasley (Theories of Falling) and Meg Day (Last Psalm at Sea Level) at 6 p.m. Tuesday; Beasley, Day and poet Erica Dawson will appear on a panel on gender and poetry at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Both events are in the TECO Room, Education Building, USF, 4202 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.

Wordier Than Thou's next open mic for storytelling and fiction features Darlyn Finch Kuhn (Sewing Holes) and Joran Oppelt at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S, St. Petersburg. $5; signup for open mic begins at 6:30.

Greg Sestero (The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside 'The Room,' the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made) will discuss and sign his book, preceded by a happy hour, at 5 p.m. Friday at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa.

Florida author James O. Born (Scent of Murder) will sign the first book in his newest thriller series at 3 p.m. Saturday at Haslam's Book Store, 2025 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

Registration is open for the third annual Sandhill Writers Retreat at Saint Leo University. The daylong retreat on May 16 at the university features 12 classes in various genres, with instructors such as fiction writer Karen Brown, Tampa Bay Times columnist Ernest Hooper and young adult novelist Amy Christine Parker. Early registration closes April 30. $85 general public; $65 teachers, students, seniors; $25 Saint Leo faculty, staff, students and veterans and active-duty military.
