Mystery Florida conference will be a real crime scene

Bestselling crime writer Michael Connelly headlines the 2008 Mystery Florida: A Conference to Die For on Friday and Saturday in Sarasota.

The event, now in its fourth year, is designed for published and aspiring authors as well as fans. Mystery writers based in Florida will gather at the Lido Beach Resort for panel discussions of everything from sidekicks for detective heroes to the Sunshine State as a muse. One presentation will focus on Florida crime-writing godfather John D. MacDonald; another will feature a gun demonstration.

Speakers and panelists will include Connelly (The Overlook), James O. Born (Burn Zone), Tom Corcoran (Air Dance Iguana), Tim Dorsey (Atomic Lobster), N.M. Kelby (Murder at the Bad Girl's Bar & Grill), Ward Larsen (The Perfect Assassin), Bob Morris (Bermuda Schwartz), Barbara Parker (The Dark of Day) and James Swain (Midnight Rambler).

The cost of registration for conference events, including panel discussion and luncheons, ranges from $125 to $250.

If you'd just like to meet some of your favorite crime writers, the Mystery Mingle from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the resort is free and open to the public. The authors mentioned above and more than 25 others will be signing their books, which will be for sale at the event.
