N.M. Kelby's new novel, Murder at the Bad Girl's Bar & Grill, introduces many new characters and brings back bluesman Jimmy Ray, who also appeared in Kelby's 2006 novel, Whale Season. "Dealing with a recurring character is like being a good host at a party. You're being respectful of the person, and at the same time, you're not sure who already knows him,'' said Kelby, who lives in Sarasota.
What is on your nightstand?
Echo Park by Michael Connelly and Memories of My Life by Auguste Escoffier.
Are you reading Auguste Escoffier's autobiography for research?
Actually, I wanted to read his story, and about cuisine. He is known for creating courses and menus. It's fascinating to read how people approach food at that higher level.
