These books, all focused on strong female characters, are the sources for three series.

Bones of the Lost (Simon & Schuster) by Kathy Reichs is the latest in the series of thrillers about forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, inspiration for Fox's series Bones, about to debut its ninth season.

Orange Is the New Black (Spiegel & Grau) by Piper Kerman is a young woman's memoir about doing time in federal prison for transporting drugs. It's the source of the hot Nextflix series.

The White Queen (Touchstone) by Philippa Gregory is a historical novel about Elizabeth Woodville, queen consort of Edward IV and mother of the "Princes in the Tower"; it's the source for a new series on Starz.
