Christmas classics

These books may be newly published, but they're as old-fashioned as a candy cane.

A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Books (Everyman's Library) by Charles Dickens, with an introduction by Margaret Atwood, gathers five of Dickens' holiday stories, several Arthur Rackham illustrations and a new essay by Atwood on why Scrooge became an icon.

Classic Toys of the National Toy Hall of Fame (Running Press) by Scott Eberle is a coffee-table-book-sized wish list packed with photos and histories of such beloved playthings as jacks and skates, Slinky and Play-Doh.

Norman Rockwell's Christmas Book (Abrams), edited by Molly Rockwell, is an update of a 1977 bestseller that pairs Bible passages, carols, poems, letters and favorite stories like O. Henry's Gift of the Magi with Rockwell's evocative illustrations.
