Pictures perfect Here are gift books for fans of photographic portraits, of the famous and nonfamous.

Caught in the Act (Glitterati) by Howard Schatz gathers a who's who of great actors, with handsome portraits, brief interviews and (the really fun part) multiple photos of the actors' faces as they respond to brief improvisational prompts.

Humans of New York (St. Martin's) by Brandon Stanton, from the Tumblr of the same name, is a fascinating collection of more than 400 photos of people ordinary and not, shot in the streets all over New York City.

Vanity Fair 100 Years: From the Jazz Age to Our Age (Abrams) is a lavish volume with a history of the magazine, excerpts, art deco illustrations and, of course, tons of gorgeous celebrity photos by the likes of Edward Steichen, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and Annie Leibovitz.
