Notable: Rethinking God

Three new or upcoming books take different tacks on the relationship of religion and science.

The Evolution of God (Little, Brown) by Robert Wright applies archaeology, theology and evolutionary psychology to find a surprising recurring pattern in the great monotheistic faiths.

Fingerprints of God: The Search for the Science of Spirituality (Riverhead) by Barbara Bradley Hagerty is the NPR religion correspondent's wide-ranging look at scientific research into the effects of religious faith.

Quantum Gods: Creation, Chaos, and the Search for Cosmic Consciousness (Prometheus) by Victor J. Stenger is a physicist's critique of popular theory that posits quantum mechanics can link the human mind and the cosmos.
