Split Image (Putnam) by Robert B. Parker, who died in January, is the ninth book in his Jesse Stone series, boasting two mysteries for the police chief as well as ties to Parker's other series about detectives Spenser and Sunny Randall.

A Whisper to the Living (Forge) by Stuart Kaminsky is the final book in the Inspector Rostnikov series, set in Moscow, by prolific writer and teacher Kaminsky, a longtime Sarasota resident who died in October.
