Notable: scary new novels for Halloween

Scary good

Three new novels promise shivery reading for Halloween.

Ghosts Know (Tor) by Ramsey Campbell is a horror tale about a bombastic talk radio host who tries to discredit a psychic on the air — and finds himself implicated in a crime the psychic is helping to investigate.

Mrs. Poe (Gallery Books) by Lynn Cullen is a Gothic romance about a twisted love triangle involving writer Edgar Allan Poe; poet Frances Osgood, who becomes his mistress; and his frail wife, Virginia (who was also his cousin).

Let the Old Dreams Die (Thomas Dunne Books) by John Ajvide Lindqvist is a new short story collection from the Swedish author whose vampire tale Let the Right One In became the basis for two chilling films; this volume includes a sequel to that story.
