These new books offer quirky advice on subjects we all ought to know about.

The Maxims of Manhood: 100 Rules Every Real Man Must Live By (Adams Media) by Jeff Wilser has fun dude-specific tips from a journalist and former Marine like "Spend more on beer than haircuts" as well as good advice for every gender: "No exclamation points or emoticons!!!:-)"

Miss Conduct's Mind Over Manners: Master the Slippery Rules of Modern Ethics and Etiquette (Times Books) by Robin Abrahams is the Boston Globe columnist's take on such challenges as saying "bless you" to a sneezing atheist, feeding a vegan and a carnivore at the same dinner and putting your best paw forward at the dog park.

The Sex Instruction Manual: Essential Information and Techniques for Optimum Performance (Quirk) by Felicia Zopol is graphic in a different sense: Its chapters (Initialization and Foreplay, Maintenance and Troubleshooting) are wittily illustrated with racy versions of those anonymous, perky little people you see on street signs and bathroom doors.
