Orlando to be the site of Florida Writers Workshop, Sleuthfest 2012

Aspiring writers around Tampa Bay might want to head up the road to Orlando in the next few months. A workshop by the Florida Writers Project offers advice on writing and selling fiction, journalism, screenplays and more, while a conference of mystery writers has events for fans and would-be writers alike.

The Florida Writers Workshop, sponsored by the Florida Society of News Editors and the University of Central Florida, will take place Feb. 16-18 on the UCF campus. Featured authors include Anthony Swofford (Jarhead), Bob Shacochis (Swimming in the Volcano) and NPR host Jacki Leyden (Daughter of the Queen of Sheba). Early bird registration before Friday is $150. Sleuthfest 2012 takes place March 1-4 at the Royal Plaza Resort Hotel in Walt Disney World. Reduced rates for the entire program are available through today; attendees can also register for one day or for single events. For information and registration, go to and click on Sleuthfest.
