When we spoke with author Evanovich by phone from her home in Naples, she was settling back into her routine after spending time in Marblehead, Mass., where she celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, Maxwell Joseph Heller. Evanovich, 67, is widely known for her bestselling mystery series featuring bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Last summer, Warner Bros. Pictures began filming a movie based on Evanovich's One for the Money, in which Katherine Heigl plays Plum. In September, Evanovich released Wicked Appetite, the first in the Diesel series, which will feature one of the seven deadly sins in each book. Evanovich, who grew up in South River, N.J., and her husband, Pete, divide their time between Florida and New Hampshire.
What's on your nightstand?
When something pops up that is from one of my favorite people, I grab it, and in this case, it's Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain.
Did you read his Kitchen Confidential?
This is the first book of his for me, but I love his show, and I've got all his seasons downloaded to my iPad. This book is great because he puts his personality into it, and if you ask me if I could have lunch with anyone, who would it be, I just might say Anthony Bourdain. His writing is very skillful. At the same time he tells you terrible things you never wanted to know about the food industry, he also creates this hunger for good food.
You're one of those consummate Jersey girls. Do you have a favorite Jersey author?
