It's been said that Kyra Milan has the bunny gene.
As in Playboy, not Peter.
The 21-year-old from Tampa is the second generation in her family to grace the pages of Playboy. Her mom worked as a bunny in the '70s; Milan posed as Playmate of the Month last March.
As one of the 2010 centerfold models, Milan is in the running for this year's Playmate of the Year, an honor bestowed by Hef himself. He'll announce the winner in May.
Milan grew up wanting to be in Playboy after seeing the movie Adventures in Babysitting, in which the kids believe their babysitter is Miss March.
"Ever since that, I always told my parents, 'I'm going to be Miss March,' " she said.
She was folding clothes at Aeropostale at the Westfield Citrus Park mall a few years ago when a guy starting circling around her, staring. He asked if she had thought about posing for Playboy. "My immediate response was yes!''
Milan shot her centerfold in May 2008. The next day, she flew home to Tampa for her senior prom.
Stripping down for cameras wasn't as difficult as she expected. She wore the same necklace her mother wore when she was a bunny — a gold fairy with diamond wings.
"Honestly, I wasn't that nervous. I love being naked. I think it's so much fun, and I see nothing wrong with the human body,'' she said. "Sometimes I get a little cold but, hey, that makes your boobs look better.''
Milan was born in Lake City and grew up in Tampa. She went to Sickles High School, then Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville. A Salvador Dalí fan, she moved back to Tampa and recently started classes at the University of South Florida toward an art history major.
As Playmate of the Month, she did appearances for Playboy and shot photos for the catalog. She lived in the mansion for a few weeks and spent time in the infamous Grotto.
Her thoughts on the newly engaged Hugh Hefner? "He's a great guy. So sweet."
The Playmate of the Year receives $100,000 and a new car and joins the ranks of Anna Nicole Smith and Jenny McCarthy. Hefner named the first winner in 1960.
If chosen, Milan said she would likely move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting and modeling career.
