Red is the new black. Also, white. Also, well, black. The celebrities trotted out a heavy mix of the hues on the Emmy Awards red carpet, some faring better than others. Lots of ladies were in the mood to ruin otherwise stellar looks with hair last seen after a body combat class at the local YMCA. We can't have it all, can we? At least one star reminded us that orange is actually the new black, and it wasn't even someone from the Netflix hit. Deal Diva Stephanie Hayes weighs in on the looks:
Laura Prepon in Gustavo Cadile
Plus points for the gorgeous jewel tone teal, which popped against her creamy skin. Minus points because I'm pretty sure it was one of the costumes Katherine Heigl wore in 27 Dresses.
Kerry Washington in Prada
Kerry had a baby four measly months ago, and somehow trotted out her teeny-tiny bod in a whimsical orange frock. It was a kicky choice for a new mom probably in desperate need of a unit of wine.
January Jones in Prabal Gurung
This dress was absolutely luxurious, and the dramatic train goes on for days. It is a shame January had to spoil things by running a palm of her high school ex-boyfriend's L.A. Looks gel through her bangs.
Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli
By the power of Greyskull! Lena Dunham came to the Emmys dressed as He-Man, if the Masters of the Universe got their powers from a mythical pink tutu locked in the care of the evil warlord Hordak.
Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan Atelier
The Masters of Sex star has come a long way since playing Janis Ian in Mean Girls. She's moved from goth kohl eyeliner to chic kohl gowns, and that is so fetch (sorry, you knew it was coming).
Laverne Cox in Marc Bouwer
Laverne looked like a Greek goddess with posture we should all aspire to. I mean, there's no denying it would be difficult to meet her gaze at eye level in that getup, but it's her year. She can do what she wants.
