Is Katie Couric leaving CBS?

Now this is just plain mean: Star is swearing that Miley Cyrus has finally decided to "tune up" what they bill as her "snaggletoothed smile," straightening her chompers and getting some pricey work done. "It looks as though she's had some porcelain veneers put on her front teeth," says dentist Michael Kosdon, D.D.S., the "expert" they picked to rule on such things via photographs. "And her small incisors appear to have been covered to make them look longer and more balanced with the rest of her mouth." Frankly, The Juice* can't see much difference between pics of her on American Idol this week (above) and ones taken last August (top), other than maybe a little whitening. And if we had Miley's kind of coin, we'd probably get every tooth capped with diamonds, so who are we to judge? So what do you think? Weigh in with your thoughts on the comment board at

Halle berry working out, shilling photos

Are you hoping to see Halle Berry's new baby, Nahla, plastered all over celebrity mags? Don't hold your breath. Berry and Gabriel Aubry are still looking for that multimillion-dollar deal their spawn deserves, MSNBC's The Scoop says. "Photos are being shopped, but nothing's been settled," one magazine editor says. Whether a deal is struck before the Halle Berry Celebrity Golf Classic on April 27 is anyone's guess. But at least we'll get to see Halle's post-baby bod. A source tells Us "she's thrilled to start exercising again" and has taken to yoga, swimming and light weights. But until some mag offers here a gajillion dollars for access to the babe in question, that's all we're getting, looks like.

Audrina doesn't really like Lauren

We get the feeling there are at least a dozen or so people out there convinced The Hills is actually real. So to counter that, we offer (thin) evidence that Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge aren't really the big pals they purport to be on the show. The New York Post's Page Six quotes a source who says that Patridge "doesn't trust Lauren" and locks the door to her bedroom in the L.A. apartment they share when she's out. Not only that, but she "gets really annoyed at Lauren's cats because they pee on her rug and on her bed." Sakes! Ever one to try to stoke good PR, Audrina's rep said only, "This is ridiculous. Audrina loves living with Lauren." But we're gonna assume that's because the arrangement is the ticket to staying on the show.

Believe it or not, The Juice* reads the Wall Street Journal at stately Juice* Manor, so we were pretty surprised to see Katie Couric may be shown the door long before her contract at CBS Evening News is up in 2011. How early? Try the January presidential inauguration. Seems the low ratings for the nightly show and her estimated $15-million per year salary are joining with cost-cutting at CBS for a perfect storm that would result in a pink slip for Katie. No way, says CBS: "We are very proud of the CBS Evening News, particularly our political coverage, and we have no plans for any changes regarding Katie or the broadcast," a network spokeswoman told the Journal. Even Couric says she's "working hard and having fun," so what's the big deal? Well, those third-place ratings have a lot to say about the 51-year-old anchor. But don't cry just yet — the Journal suggests she might be in line to replace Larry King when his CNN contract expires in 2009.

and after?

Britney Spears gives back

It's nice to know Britney Spears cares. The onetime pop princess sat at home like the rest of you on Wednesday and watched Idol Gives Back, says Life & Style. Not only did she watch, she was so moved she forked over $25,000 to help out. "She did it all on her own. She watched the show and cried for like two hours over the children in Africa with malaria," a family friend tells the mag. "She didn't know much about the disease, so she Googled it. She was horrified to realize kids were dying from mosquito bites. So she went online and donated after getting (her dad) Jamie's permission. She used her Amex." We'll skip right over the part where we point out there once was a time when Britney would have headlined that show and go straight for the breaking news that yes, mosquitoes do, in fact, spread malaria. Hey, the more you know, right? No, seriously, we're glad Jamie let her spend her money on something worthwhile for a change.

Ashlee, Pete are engaged

While big sister Jessica is desperately looking for attention, Ashlee Simpson knows the fastest way to get your name back in the news is to get engaged. She and Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz are officially tethered, the 23-year-old singer said in a statement posted on "We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I, and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best," the post read. "Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes — it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us." Simpson and the 28-year-old bassist have been an item since 2006, when they were spotted hooking up in nightclub bathroom in New York. The Juice* dutifully shared that foulness, so we're glad to see it all worked out.

Wright-Penns still together

Well, it looks like things have worked out for Sean Penn and Robin Wright, at least for the time being. The AP reports the couple have withdrawn their divorce petition. They originally filed their intentions in December. A Marin County (Calif.) Superior Court commissioner dismissed the proceedings during a hearing that neither attended. Does this have anything to do with Sean going onstage during an Eddie Vedder concert at UC-Berkeley and dedicating a song to Robin on Monday? We're going to go out on a limb and say yes.
