Be creative with trash

LARGO — You have more time to submit your entries for the city of Largo's Recycled Innovations Contest. This online contest encourages innovators to make a usable item with the contents of their trash can. Here are some details:

Requirements: All entries must be made of 75 percent or more recycled objects or material that would otherwise be discarded. Items must be functional, not just a work of art.

Prizes: Solar- and solar/wind-powered chargers for cell phones, MP3 players and other electronics, environmental board games, learning toys and more.

Age categories: Tiny Innovators (Grades K-2), Junior Innovators (Grades 2-4), Tween Innovators (Grades 5-8), Techie Innovators (Grades 9-12), and Macgyvers (18 and older).

Voting: Online voting runs Nov. 2-12. The winners will be announced on America Recycles Day, Nov. 15.
