Reader's Exchange: Offering a means to cleaner floors

Let's start the day with a clean sweep. M.H. Abbott of St. Petersburg recently upgraded the household floor-cleaning equipment, which now leaves a resident Hoover vacuum cleaner and a Bissell steam mop with little to do. M.H. would like to donate them to a charity. The items will have to be picked up. Please call (727) 541-2346.

Jim Myers' 85-year-old banjo uke was handed down to him by his dad, and, with help from a shop that repairs instruments, Jim is refurbishing it to give to his grandson. One problem: They can't find a bridge for the instrument. If you have a bridge, or advice, that will lead to a smooth transition of the banjo uke to another generation, call (727) 821-9293 or e-mail jimgreta@ij.net.

Cathy Dixon's 15-foot cord for her landline phone gets tangled easily, so she is looking for a retractable cord instead. Unfortunately, neither stores nor the Internet have yielded one, so she is turning to a more promising source: our readers. Please call (727) 536-7134.

The following giveaway should be as popular with our readers as chum is in the shark tank. (Clarification for first-time readers of the column: Projectors are hot items among REXers.) Pat McCabe of Largo offers a Kodak Carousel slide projector (650), a large retractable screen and 13 Kodak Carousel slide trays with capacities of 80 or 140. Just call (727) 585-4531.

Just pry off the current name plaque, and the golf trophies Betty Jo wants to recycle could hit a hole in one at a children's birthday party or a miniature golf outing. Please call (727) 376-2278.

Betty Cozze is looking for a 6- to 7-foot wood quilting frame. A group of ladies from her church quilts coverlets for folks confined to their homes, and any cotton scraps (fat quarter or larger) would also be welcome. Please call (727) 576-8038.

Dianne is recycling boxes and bags of quality fabric samples that would be great for folks who make pillows and quilts, among other craft specialties. The fabric, samples from designer showrooms, is very high in quality, and ranges in size from small to large enough to cover a pillow. You must be able to take all of it, and be able to pick it up (in St. Petersburg, near the beach). Dianne may be reached by e-mail at pickmine@gmail.com or by phone at (727) 864-9989.

Send requests to Reader Exchange, Floridian, St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg 33731 or e-mail cole@sptimes.com. Requests will be accepted only by mail or e-mail. This is an exchange column, so we will not run items that are for sale. Readers must agree to publication of phone numbers, including area code.
