Steroids used for back pain

Company: New England Compounding Center.

Why? These lots have been associated with a non-contagious fungal meningitis outbreak that has killed at least 12 people.

What models? All New England Compounding Center products distributed since January 2012. This includes three contaminated lots of methylprednisolone acetate labeled 05212012@68, 06292012@26 and 08102012@51.

Where sold? Through pain clinics in more than 20 states, including Florida. The steroids were administered at the following locations: Florida Pain Clinic, Marion Pain Management Center and Surgery Center in Ocala; Orlando Center for Outpatient Surgery; Pain Consultants of West Florida in Pensacola; and Surgical Park Center in Miami.

What models? The Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand cheese was cut into wedges, packaged in clear plastic wrap and sold with a Whole Foods Market scale label using PLU 293427. All sell-by dates through Oct. 2 are affected.

XL Foods Canadian beef

Company: XL Foods.

Quantity: 2.5 million pounds. This is an expansion of a previous recall.

Why? Some of the beef may be contaminated with E.coli O157:H7, a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and in the most severe cases, kidney failure.

What models? All XL Foods beef and beef products produced on Aug. 24, 27, 28, 29 and Sept. 5.
