Events: Deep Carnivale auditions, luncheon with Thomas French

The Artists and Writers Group will hold auditions for writers and readers for its Deep Carnivale literature festival (which takes place Sept. 11 at Hillsborough Community College Ybor campus) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tre Amici at the Bunker, 1907 N 19th St., Tampa. The Friends of the Library of Tampa-Hillsborough County present a Four Seasons Author Series Luncheon featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas French. The former St. Petersburg Times reporter and Poynter Institute fellow will talk about his new book, Zoo Story: Life in the Garden of Captives, a nonfiction look at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. The luncheon is at noon Friday at the University Club, 38th Floor, One Tampa City Center. Tickets are $30; for reservations, call (813) 273-3616 by Monday.

St. Pete Reads presents a party with readings by authors Tim Dorsey (Gator-a-Go-Go), Adam Gallari (We Are Never as Beautiful as We Are Now) and Shellie Zacharia (Now Playing), as well as a sneak preview of the cover art for the upcoming Zombie Nation: St. Pete, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Pier, 800 Second Ave. NE, St. Petersburg.
