THE HOT DOG SHOW: The hipsters at Crowbar are getting into the indie spirit this weekend with a mix of psychedelic rock, hip-hop and rock, followed by a hot dog eating contest. The Friday show features Sunbears, Shunda K, eFFeX, Juicy Pony, the Grecian Urns and DJ Mini Horse. The hot dog eating contest starts at 9 p.m. and there's barbecue for everyone. It's $5 at the club at 1812 N 17th St. in Ybor City. Phone: (813) 241-8600.

KIDS WORKSHOP: Let your kids bring something to the July 4 potluck by making a wooden picnic caddy at the Home Depot's kids workshops for ages 5 to 12. They supply all the materials, tools and even a work apron you can take home. Just register online at homedepotkids.com. They will hold the workshop between 9 a.m. and noon at all Home Depot stores on Saturday. Free.

GREG BILLINGS BAND: It's a free show at Bourbon Street in New Port Richey on Friday. Billings, a founding member of Stranger and Damn the Torpedoes, now plays with a self-titled band made up of longtime friends. There's no cover from 3 to 7 p.m., but it's $12 after 7. You can also see Cowhead from WHPT-FM 102.5 with his band, Pitbull Toddler. The club is at 4331 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey.

GET DOWNTOWN: The monthly first Friday block party in downtown St. Petersburg gets hopping when killer saxophonist Stacey Knights brings her pop-jazz sound to Central Avenue between Second and Third streets. The fun starts around 6 p.m. Free.

FIREWORKS: Ah, fireworks on the Fourth, you gotta love it. See our list of the best place to lay down a blanket and cover your ears.
