USF Hispanic Heritage Celebration Kick-off: To honor Latino faculty, staff, students and fellowship recipients, the community is invited to a reception at 5 p.m., followed by a presentation and performance at 6 p.m. Thursday in the USF Alumni Center's Traditions Hall at the University of South Florida, 4202 E Fowler Ave. Free. Includes food and performances by USF students and local talent. Call (813) 974-4985.

Dia de Asturias: The celebration starts at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 with Mass at OLPH Catholic Church, 1711 E 11th Ave., Ybor City, and continues with lunch, a guest speaker and music at 11 a.m. at Centro Asturiano de Tampa, 1913 N Nebraska Ave. $35 for adults, $15 for children 12 and younger. Feria de la Familia: WRMD Telemundo Tampa's family expo is noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the A La Carte Event Pavilion, 4050 Dana Shores Drive. The free event features food, live music from Charlie Cruz and Dominic Marte, appearances by Telemundo actors, and activities for children. Call (813) 319-4949, ext. 238.

Opera and Pasta: Sponsored by the Spanish Lyric Theater, partake in a pasta lunch with a cash bar at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Italian Club, 1731 E Seventh Ave., in Ybor City. An opera performance is afterward. $40. Reservations are required. Call (813) 884-5154 or (813) 248-3316.
