1. INDIA NIGHT: A popular event returns to the shuffleboard courts of Mirror Lake Drive in St. Petersburg, a hipster hangout for free Friday night shuffleboard. This Friday, SPIFFS and the India Culture and Arts Society will get all Slumdog on the shufflers with music, dance, food, yoga and crafts from Bollywood. It runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at 559 Mirror Lake Drive N. Free.
2. BEER OLYMPICS: Watch "athletes" chug to the finish line at the Beer Olympics on Sunday at Gaspar's Grotto in Ybor City. We know some of you have been training all year for this bonafide event, with cheerleaders and uniforms, even. Teams compete in beer pong, flip cup and other events that rely on skill and speed, not quantity consumed. (Just don't be an idiot, okay?) 3. FAT LAST FRIDAY MARDI GRAS FESTIVAL: The increasingly popular free last Friday concerts in Williams Park in downtown St. Petersburg turn to New Orleans for inspiration with music by Gumbo Boogie, a Cajun Zydeco band. The concert is free but $20 will get you VIP tickets that include dinner, beer and wine and hand-rolled cigars. 4. YBOR CITY FIESTA DAY: The annual celebration of Ybor City's ethnic heritage and culture Saturday will include an arts marketplace, children's area, ethnic foods, multicultural exhibits and entertainment. For food there will be a black bean blowout, plus Flan Fest, a custard smackdown with samplings that starts at noon. The day's activities begin at 10 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. in Centennial Park, 1800 E Eighth Ave., Ybor City. Free.
5. METALFEST 2009: Bourbon Street nightclub in New Port Richey puts on a wallet-friendly collection of metal bands on Saturday, including Burned Beyond Recognition, Screaming at the Silence, Paradigm, Dust Up, Seventh Burning, D-15, Dreadful Memories, Set the Sights and Ares. Cover is $5 at 4331 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey.
