Chasco Fiesta gets the blues(masters)

NEW PORT RICHEY — Many top names in Tampa Bay rhythm and blues will be on stage at Chasco Fiesta tonight, including headliners the Damon Fowler Group, bluesman Sean Chambers and "Angel for Blues" Julie Black and her band.

The carnival, Native American Festival and food vendors open at 5 p.m. The blues show starts at 6 p.m. in the amphitheater.

The fiesta continues through Sunday in Sims Park, with the Cotee River Boat Parade set for 1 p.m. Saturday and the Chasco Country Concert, starring Jake Owen and Josh Gracin, at 6 p.m.

Organizers hope to raise at least $300,000 for 30 nonprofit groups, including Special Olympics, Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind, Deaf Services Bureau and Florida Blood Services.

Special speakers at the Native American Festival will be Robin Jumper, Cherokee history, 7 p.m.; Mike Gilbert, primitive skills, 7:30 p.m.; Chipa Wolf, Warrior on Horseback, 8 p.m.; women's history, 8:30 p.m.; and American Indian dancers, 9 p.m.

5-10 p.m.: Chasco Carnival.

5-9 p.m.: Native American Festival.

6-11 p.m.: Rhythm & Bluesmasters concert, amphitheater.

Friday

5-10 p.m.: Chasco Carnival.

5-9 p.m.: Native American Festival.

5-11 p.m.: West Pasco Sertoma Chicken Barbecue.

6-11 p.m.: True Oldies Night (admission is $5).
