Those wanting to celebrate Independence Day a little closer to July 4 can check out a new event in Hudson, or head to Dade City or Hernando County.
Hudson Americana Music Fest at the Angelus features a day of live music culminating with a professional fireworks show. Food, drinks, and arts and crafts will be available. Gates open at 10 a.m. at 12413 Hudson Ave. in Hudson.
Tickets at the gate are $7.50; parking is $2. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Angelus and all Patriotic Fireworks locations. Proceeds go to the Angelus, a full-time residential facility for the severely handicapped. For information call (727) 856-1775.
Sparklebration, held at the Pasco County Fairgrounds, is a two-day event starting at 7 p.m. July 3 with A Night of Patriotic Music featuring the Mostly Pop Orchestra, conducted by Robert Romanski, and performances by John and Mary K. Wilson and special guest Robert Wilson.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show. Advance tickets are available at the Pasco County Fair Office, 36722 State Road 52, Dade City; the Dade City Chamber of Commerce, 14112 Eighth St.; and Bingham Realty, 7304 Gall Blvd., Zephyrhills.
Gates open at 4 p.m. July 4, when Sparklebration features continuous live music, games, pony rides, magic, balloon art, and watermelon, hot dog and apple pie eating contests. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. Chairs and blankets are welcome. Please don't bring coolers, food, alcoholic beverages or personal fireworks.
Price: $3 for adults, free for children 10 and under. Parking is $5.
The 2009 Nature Coast Freedom Fest — For God and Country will start at 3 p.m. July 3 at Florida Classic Park, 5360 Lockhart Road east of Brooksville. Freedom Fest will feature performances by country singer Rodney Atkins and Lindsay Taylor, food, games, a family zone and the only fireworks display in Hernando County.
