Cheeky end-of-the-world parties on tap Dec. 21

Tampa Bay hot spots are not about to let the world end without one last party. With tongue firmly in cheek, several parties and even a day of meditation are planned around the bay area to mark the date — Dec. 21, 2012 — when an ancient Mayan prophecy says the world will be destroyed.

.'End of the World' Barrel Aged Brew Release Party: The Mayans predict the world ends Friday, so Peg's Cantina in Gulfport wants to tap their barrel aged RareR D.O.S. and Batch 200 before it does. Sixteen-ounce growlers of RareR will go on sale at 7 p.m. Friday for $20. No advance sales. Cash only (ATM on site). First come, first served for taps and growlers. Peg's Cantina & Brew Pub, 3038 Beach Blvd. S, Gulfport.

.End of the World Studio Celebration: In case the world really does come to an end, the Phoenix Glass Studio and Gallery is holding an "everything must go" sale with chair massages, yoga demonstrations, glass blowing demonstrations, food, drink and workshops. The gallery opens at 9 a.m. Friday and the party goes into the evening, "or until the end of the world, " at 811 E Knollwood St., Tampa.

.Meditation for World Healing: Many ethnic Mayans dismiss the apocalyptic predictions and adopt the ideas of cleansing, or the birth of a new era. In support of this idea, everyone is invited to join in a heart meditation session to raise personal chakras and bring healing to the people of the world. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Structural Energetic Therapy, 156B Whitaker Road, Lutz. Free.

.End of the World Party: Shocktop is sponsoring this party at 8 p.m. Friday at Jannus Live with 97X and a free show by Sick Puppies and IAMDYNAMITE. It's free but you need a ticket from numerous ticket drops found on www.97xonline.com/s/eotw. Jannus Live, 16 Second St. N, St. Petersburg.

.Zombie Apocalypse: If the world is ending you might as well dress up like a zombie and enjoy the last day with a free end of the world party at 7 p.m. Friday. With Dementia, A(k)new, Emerge, Yoshi Gish, and Us performing. DJ Decibel Nation, zombie costume contests, raffles and prizes at Gasoline Alley, 14046 66th St. N , Largo.

.End of the World Party: Draft Launch: The Canadian beer La Fin Du Monde is French for "The End of the World." The award-winning Belgian style ale is being offered on draft for the first time to mark the Mayan occasion. The party at The Independent in Seminole Heights starts at 8 p.m. Friday, and to put you in an apocalyptic mood, the lights will be out for a candle-lit evening of hoarding beer rations. No cover, 5016 N Florida Ave., Tampa.

.Zero Point: Tampa Pitcher Show is testing the fates and throwing a party with drink specials, Mayan inspired cocktails and a mix and mingle with stars from the Hell Cats Burlesque Show. $10 show ticket required. Tampa Pitcher Show, 14416 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. (813) 963-0578. 11:30 p.m. Friday.

.Day After Doomsday Party: In the event that the world does NOT end on Friday, join the revelers at Two Lions Winery to celebrate the Earth's survival with the winery's handcrafted wines, plus beer on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the winery at 2194 Main St, Dunedin. Prices vary by the glass or bottle of wine (beer available also). (727) 253-4900.
