Get the latest biological buzz

What can we learn from bees and termites? Find out when legendary biologist Edward O. Wilson, winner of two Pulitzers and the National Medal of Science, talks about his just-published book The Superorganism as part of Eckerd College's 50th anniversary celebration. Wilson, also the creator of the amazing Encyclopedia of Life Web site (www.eol.org), gives a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Fox Hall on the Eckerd campus, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

Reliving sounds of the campaign trail

Supporters of the president-elect who want to keep that Obama high going can pick up a new CD, Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement. On sale Tuesday, it weaves together excerpts from Barack Obama's speeches with music by Stevie Wonder, Kanye West, John Legend, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Ozomatli and many more.

Festival lighting up Ybor streets

Ybor City is throwing a party to celebrate the industry that put Tampa on the map: the 10th annual Cigar Heritage Festival. Besides cigar-rolling demos and, of course, lots of stogies for sale, there will be live entertainment, food and drink and plenty of kids' activities (not including cigar smoking). Hosted by the Ybor City Museum Society, it's free, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park, on Ninth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets. For information: cigarheritagefestival.com.

Nothing bad could happen at Tiffany's

Cure any case of the mean reds with the 50th anniversary edition of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, in bookstores Tuesday. The 1958 novella inspired a classic film with Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, and it remains perhaps the most beautifully written and sweetest story about a call girl ever published.

Cue the cake on the set

Stars of three Emmy-winning network TV series celebrate birthdays this week. Today, Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) is 40, and Ellen Pompeo (Grey's Anatomy) is 39. On Tuesday, Calista Flockhart (Brothers and Sisters) turns 44.
