Cotee River Seafood Festival and Bright House Networks Boat Show opens Friday

Ahhh. Summer must be near. The harbinger of even warmer weather to come, the Cotee River Seafood Festival and Bright House Networks Boat Show, opens today and continues through Sunday in Sims Park in New Port Richey.

This evening will feature True Oldies Music in the park from 5 to 10:30 p.m., featuring three bands, including a Roy Orbison tribute band, Solid Core Band and 60's Groove.

Saturday and Sunday will feature an arts and crafts village; the boat show and river boat tours aboard Miss Daisy ($5) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; the "Swamp Master Alligator Show" at 11:30 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m.; photo ops with a Weeki Wachee mermaid and Captain Jack, the Caribbean pirate; and Blues by the River concerts (free; VIP seating, $7, starting at 5 p.m. Saturday).

Saturday highlights are the Salt Springs State Park Kayak Race and Fun Paddle at 9 a.m. ($15 entry fee; register at saltspringsalliance.com or at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park at 8 a.m. on race day); and the Sunset Corvette and Classic Car Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
