You want to see John Fogerty or Styx or Trace Adkins at Ribfest this weekend in St. Petersburg, but your cash flow's low.
Not to worry if you're healthy and not squeamish about donating blood.
Florida Blood Services bloodmobiles will be on location at the Ribfest to accept blood donations. In return, donors will get a free ticket to the annual event, which features award-winning grillers and a headlining act each night.
The bloodmobile, located at the Vinoy hotel entrance, will be accepting donations during these hours: Friday, 3-7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to one free ticket, all donors will receive a wellness checkup of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count, including a cholesterol screening.
Florida Blood Services also announced in the same release that it is giving away a chance to win a 2012 Kia Soul if you donate blood between now and Feb. 29. FBS will randomly select a weekly winner, and at the end of the campaign the 17 weekly winners will all receive a key to see if it starts the Kia. (See fbsblood.org for more information.
Generally, healthy people age 16 (with parental consent) or older, who weigh at least 110 pounds, can be blood donors. Photo identification is required.
