Benefits for officers' families: Two events this coming weekend will benefit the families of slain Tampa police Officers David Curtis and Jeff Kocab. Jannus Live is hosting a free concert by seven local artists on Sunday. Admission is pay what you can, with all proceeds going to help the families. The family-friendly show starts at 3 p.m. with music by rock bands Save the Radio, Livewire (featuring Tampa police Officer Jay Haji on vocals) and Satellites Down; goth-pop outfit Sonic Erotica; tween country sensation Suite Caroline; and singer-songwriter Amber Lynn Nicol. More information at or (727) 565-0551. And on Saturday, Lakeland Kathleen Middle School is holding a benefit barbecue. Sara Kocab, Officer Kocab's widow, is a dean at the school. There will also be an auction at the school, 3627 Kathleen Pines, Lakeland.

Days of our lives: You'll want to visit the Times' home page and search for things to do to celebrate these special days this week. Bastille Day is Wednesday, so find a wine tasting. It Starts in the Park is a movement to promote local parks and their value. Several bay area parks, including Curtis Hixon in Tampa and several in Dunedin, are having special events Friday to mark the occasion. And National Ice Cream Day is Sunday. Slurp!
