This looks like a fun charity event, and it features a Tampa Bay favorite: Former Lightning captain and Hall of Famer Dave Andreychuk will be participating in the Riverwalk for Wishes Happy Hour Hike along the river to benefit the Make A Wish foundation. Cost is $20 and includes drinks, entertainment and an appearance by 97X DJ Fisher. It starts at 7 p.m.
A more somber event will be taking place nearby. Mayor Pam Iorio and police Chief Jane Castor plan to unveil the addition of a blue laser beam to the memorial for fallen Tampa officers. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at police headquarters, 411 N Franklin St. The light will debut at 8 p.m. The "thin blue line" will project from the top of the monument outside police headquarters to the top of the BB&T Bank Building at 400 N Tampa St.
Inkwood Books has an interesting evening planned. Jon Jefferson, co-author of The Bone Yard, will discuss his fictional work that's based on the true story of horrible abuse at the infamous Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys. Appearing with him will be St. Petersburg Times reporter Ben Montgomery, whose real-life findings and investigation are the basis for the book. It's at 7 p.m. at the Tampa bookstore.
Testing is continuing on the new Cheetah Hunt roller coaster at Busch Gardens. Now that the track is in place, a crane and pulleys are pulling the cars along the track to test it out. Watch for it if you're going to the park. It's scheduled to open May 27.
