We're issuing a red alert today since it's the start of the Florida Strawberry Festival. Plant City's annual celebration of the fruit that made it famous features top music acts — Kenny Rogers kicks things off with a concert — midway rides and, natch, strawberry shortcakes and other goodies out the wazoo. And if you have no idea what Plant City is really like, you have to read this story by Stephanie Hayes, who spent some time there getting to know this nostalgia-dipped community.
This is a tough ticket, but there are some berm spots left as the Rays host the team from Tampa at 1:05 p.m. in Punta Gorda. (And no, we're not going to say that other team's name.)
Here's something free to do with your family on a gorgeous night in Florida: Drop by Rock the Park at Curtis Hixon in Tampa to hear the Jim Morey Band, Baye Kouyate and EffeX perform.
But leave the kids at home for Nude Nite, an annual artsy happening of fine art mixed with photography mixed with body painting mixed with "fitness pole" performances. It's all going on at the Historic Trolley Barn in Seminole Heights through Saturday night.
Our big deal is a tasty one: Get $15 worth of food and drink for $7 at the Gourmet Pizza Company.
