Those wanting to celebrate and support Gay and Lesbian Pride Month while staying close to home have a couple of options this weekend and next.
The Pasco Gay Pride Talent Show is a new kind of event being organized by Beverly Mason of River of Life Community Outreach LGBT Inc.
Typically the group sponsors dinner-dances that support a number of local causes, from the Fresh Start Food Pantry Program and Beacon of Light Youth Group to World AIDS Day.
"This is our way of celebrating, Pasco style," Mason said. "We're just coming together. We're not big enough to do a parade. And some of us older folks ... just don't want to travel. Here people can be in the cool air conditioning, watch the show and have a cup of coffee, soda, whatever."
Featured performers include Cowboy Tyler, trumpet player Dale Thien, dancer Tammie Williams and the choral group Wings of Worship.
The Pasco Health Department will also offer free AIDS testing and counseling.
An auction at the end of the show will include prizes like a limo ride and restaurant dinner, in-home body massage and cell phones.
Proceeds will benefit Spirit of Life Metropolitan Church and help fund future events sponsored by River of Life Community Outreach.
After the show, folks can head to the New Port Richey Library for the Reel Pride film festival, which will offer two showings Saturday and three June 20. See tampabay.com/features/movies/ article1005185.ece for the films.
