With the last of the Harry Potter movies upon us, we knew Harry Potter-themed parties would soon apparate. While the local movie theaters will have midnight shows, likely populated by costumed fans, others have some extra magic in store this week. Accio Potter parties!
Movie premiere party: The USF Quidditch team (Yes, there is such a thing. Don't judge.) will be performing exhibition games from 9 to 11 p.m. at MOSI before the midnight showing today. The MOSI gift shop will have Harry Potter-themed items and the concession stand will have butterbeer. There's even an adult version with a shot of vodka, available for the run of the movie at MOSI, 4801 E Fowler Ave., Tampa. Regular admission prices apply.
Harry Potter Costume Party: The Tampa Pitcher Show will have a costume party of both heroes and villains from the Harry Potter series before the midnight showing tonight of Deathly Hallows, Part 2. The cinema pub has a full menu and liquor bar at 14416 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. (813) 963-0578
Harry Potter Summer Movie Marathon: The John F. Germany Public Library has a great way to beat the heat: a whole weekend of Harry Potter movies. The marathon runs from 10:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Friday has the first three films, Saturday will show four through six and Sunday wraps up with the seventh film. Popcorn and soda will be served. Harry Potter Party: The Clearwater East Library is gathering kids to celebrate the last of the Harry Potter movies at a party where they'll be sorted into houses, sample Hogwarts food, attend wand- and potion-making classes and visit Spinners End, the location of Snape's childhood home. No muggles allowed! It's at 1 p.m. Saturday at 2251 Drew St., Clearwater.
Wrock and Nerd Rock Party: Wizard rock, or rather wrock bands, will "entertain dorks and nondorks alike with their awesome music," at the John F. Germany Public Library on Monday. This teen event will bring in wrock bands the Remus Lupins, Ministry of Magic, All Caps and Skyway Flyers starting at 6 p.m. at 900 N Ashley Drive, Tampa.
Harry Potter's Overnight Extravaganza: This one is pricey but extra Potter-ific. On July 30 starting at 6 p.m., Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry hosts a sleepover that brings Harry Potter's wizard world alive. The night starts with a feast of an English banquet in the Great Hall. Activities include classes on potions, charms, caring for magical creatures, wandmaking and more. Catch the snitch in the Quidditch Cup Tournament. Experience a live presentation of The Alchemist's Shop and you'll graduate from your Hogwarts experience. $105 parent/child team, $60 additional child; $79 parent/child team members, $45 additional child members at MOSI, 4801 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.
