The Port of Tampa will be playing host to three naval ships later this month, but they won't be sporting the familiar colors of the U.S. fleet.
They are three Japan Training Squadron ships, and they'll be stationed in the port July 25-28 as part of the squadron's overseas tour in 2011. This will be the second visit to Tampa since 2006.
The Kashima, Asagiri and Mineyuki will be open to the public for free tours from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 26 and July 27. Other community events and activities are also planned.
The ships will include approximately 700 personnel, including nearly 200 newly commissioned officers. The purpose of the training cruise, according to a news release, is to broaden the mind and experience of the new officers and to expand the goodwill with the host community.
