New Port Richey Main Street Blast adds extra day to festival

For years, New Port Richey Main Street has celebrated the July 4 holiday a week early, and this year will be no exception.

The 13th annual Kia Fest Main Street Blast is not only coming to town early, but is expanding to two days, June 24 and 25, with five bands, arts and crafts vendors, boat rides, food booths, kids' stuff and the Budweiser Beer Garden.

Highlights on June 25 include the 10th annual Miss Firecracker Contest at 3 p.m. and a fireworks display over Orange Lake at dusk (weather and conditions permitting). The 2010 Miss Firecracker was Fatine Amazzani; Miss Sparkler was Angela Dodd. For information about entering the contest, call (727) 842-8066.

"We want people to come out (and) enjoy the live music performances, great festival food and spectacular fireworks," said Deborah Pentivolpi, executive director of Main Street.

"Kia Fest Main Street Blast is an event that celebrates our historic downtown and creates a sense of community pride," Pentivolpi said. "Expect a big show, a big sound, and an evening that will bring you back to a time of youth, fun and hope."
