On your radar: Cool bands at Rock the Park and giveaways at Fashion's Night Out

Fashion's Night Out: This national event is the brainchild of Vogue's Anna Wintour. Fashion's Night Out Tampa Bay brings fashion shows, freebies, giveaways and swank lounge areas to International Plaza, along with a Mad Men Lounge in the Grand Court and fashion shows at Dillard's at 6 and 7:15 p.m. It starts at 6 p.m. at 2223 N Westshore Blvd., Tampa. Free. (813) 342-1220; shopinternationalplaza.com.

Robert Kelly: The no-nonsense Boston comic played Louis C.K.'s brother on Louie and will be returning to FX with a lead role in the comedy show Bronx Warrants. He performs at 8:30 p.m. at Side Splitters Comedy Club, 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. $12. (813) 960-1197.

Cabaret: The play set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Club and cabaret performer Sally Bowles. See it at 7 p.m. at Freefall Theatre, 6099 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. $39–$46. (727) 498-5205.

Rock the Park: Magadog, Red Rock/Its and Halibut perform at this monthly outdoor music series. There will be food and beverages on site. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa. Free.

To watch

2012 MTV Video Music Awards, 8 p.m., MTV: Pink, Alicia Keys, One Direction and other acts will perform tonight, easily drawing more viewers than watching a collection of trophies being given out for the most popular video.

Series premiere; Texas Car Wars, 10 p.m., Discovery: Another. Reality show. With "wars" in the title. This time, instead of antiques or junk or soup recipes or beauty pageants or whatever, it's rednecks who buy old cars without seeing them in the hopes they can be restored and resold. What, on God's green earth, is warlike about that? Stop it, Discovery. Just stop it.
